The couple very much stayed together for the sake of the 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren. Donna Kelce has always exemplified resilience and dedication, serving as a strong role model for her two sons, NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce.
In a recent feature for Glamour’s 2024 Women of the Year: The Moms issue, the 71-year-old shared her experiences of motherhood and the journey she undertook while raising her sons before they became famous.
As a commercial banker, Donna was a major breadwinner for her family, diligently working to provide for her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren.
“I worked really, really hard,” she noted, highlighting her commitment to demonstrating that women can pursue their goals. Yet, she also acknowledged personal sacrifices.
“I did stand still, too.”
Reflecting on her marriage with ex-husband Ed Kelce, Donna revealed that they chose to stay together for the sake of their 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren, even when their relationship was struggling.
“Ours was a very friendly relationship,” she explained, adding that they aimed to ensure their sons had a normal upbringing.
However, she admitted that it took years before she could seek her independence.
Describing motherhood as “probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Donna emphasized the challenges of raising 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren.
“It’s so much easier to just go to work, but raising 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren… it’s the most daunting task I’ve ever had to do,” she reflected.
How is Donna enjoying her time post-divorce?
With Jason and Travis now adults, Donna is carving out time for herself and pursuing new opportunities. This Christmas, she is set to appear in the Hallmark Channel’s Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, filmed in Kansas City. Additionally, she has a cameo in Christmas on Call, a film centered around the lives of first responders in Philadelphia during the holiday season.
In Christmas on Call, Donna proudly wears an Eagles jersey, showcasing her loyalty. However, she remains neutral when supporting her sons’ careers. Recently, she attended the New York City premiere of FX’s Grotesquerie to cheer on Travis in his latest role. Speaking to PEOPLE at the event, she acknowledged the immense pressures faced by athletes and entertainers, emphasizing that many challenges often go unnoticed.
“I don’t think they realize the pressure that people are under, whether they’re athletes or professionals in front of the camera,” she remarked, alluding to the notorious NFL critics known as “dads, Brads, and Chads,” a term coined by Travis’ girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
With her unwavering dedication to family and an expanding presence in the entertainment industry, Donna Kelce continues to inspire others while embracing exciting new ventures.
